As you maybe know, Rauelsson invited me to join him onstage for some of his 2014 ‘Vora’ concerts. The first two concerts took place in Nürnberg and Köln and I am truly thankful that I had the opportunity to be part of this beautiful trip through Germany with a super kind and talented musician like Raúl.
At Neues Museum Nürnberg we supported Lubomyr Melnyk as part of the Across concert series. A fascinating venue, kind hosts and a wonderful concert. Also spontaneously teaming up with Lubomyr to perform one of his latest compositions was as exciting as unexpected. What a day!
The following day we played at the Ambientfestival in Köln, Basilika St. Aposteln. Another fantastic venue and concert. Seeing and hearing a concert by Hauschka and Samuli Kosminen was another great experience.
So now I’m looking forward to teaming up with Raúl again. This time I’ll join him onstage at Stuk in Leuven (Belgium) on February 23rd and the day before at Cultuurcentrum in Haarlem (Netherlands) where I’ll also be performing a solo set.
flau kindly asked me to share my thoughts on this year’s music publications.
Selecting releases for a list of favorites is quite a tough thing as one always forgets at least a few releases that should have deserved to be listed as well. So let’s call this a selection of ten remarkable releases. I’m listing them in two different categories, in alphabetical order. As 2013 was a fantastic year regarding first publications on vinyl of formally reissued albums, this will be my first category. The second one will be listing those albums that were released in 2013.
First publications on vinyl (formally reissued) 2013
Esbjörn Svensson Trio "live in Hamburg" (ACT)
Johann Johannsson "Fordlandia" (NTOV)
Plinth "Music For Smalls Lighthouse" (Clay Pipe Music)
Ben Lukas Boysen "Gravity" (Ad Noiseam)
DJ Koze "Amygdala" (Pampa)
Henning Schmiedt "Schnee" (flau)
Kaboom Karavan "Hokus Fokus" (Miasmah)
Lusine "The Waiting Room" (Ghostly)
Orla Wren, Aaron Martin, Isnaj Dui "The Blizzard That Birthed Her" (Facture)
The Mistys "Redemption Forest" (Other Ideas)
Remember this gem? It was released last year through Headphone Commute and raised 20.000$ in a first wave. This amount was donated to Doctors Without Borders and The Humane Society.
With a little help Headphone Commute will be able to donate another 10.000$ this year! The festive season is charity season, so get yourself a copy of this wonderful compilation - be it for you own listening pleasure or as a gift to family and friends. It contains 87 tracks for a tenner and - again - it’s for a good cause.
For a huge update, here’s Headphone Commute’s post “A year since … and darkness came”
